Bridges

G&M is involved in the design, rehabilitation and construction of a wide range bridge and culvert structures throughout Ontario. We use state-of-the-art design software while incorporating innovative new products to optimize the design of the structures. Many projects involve new construction, while others involve the detailed inspection, rehabilitation or removal of existing structures. Our extensive past experience with a variety of structures allows us to assist our clients in evaluating the optimum long-term plan for an existing bridge or network of bridges within a municipality while taking into account structural, economic and social considerations.

Recent Projects

Grier Creek Bridge Replacement, County of Grey

The project consisted of the replacement of an old, single lane bridge structure in a steep river valley. The design included reconstruction of the approaches to meet current geometric design standards. It also incorporated various biostabilization techniques for improving the stability of the steep roadside banks on the approaches and to restore the natural environment following construction. The scope of work included the completion of a Schedule B Municipal Class EA, conceptual designs including 3D renderings, preparation of tender documents, contract administration, construction inspection and materials testing.

Eramosa Road Bridge Rehabilitation, City of Guelph

The scope of work included a detailed inspection of the existing structure, evaluation of repair options, design and contract administration for the removal and replacement of existing concrete deck, sidewalks, wingwalls, ballast walls, approach slabs and barriers.

Port Ryerse Bridge Replacement, Norfolk County

G&M completed the detailed design and construction administration for replacement of the existing timber bridge. One lane of traffic was maintained at all times. The new structure was constructed using precast bridge sections.

Hilpert Bridge Replacement, North Perth

G&M completed a Schedule ‘B’ Environmental Assessment to review various design options for the Hipert Bridge replacement. The selected alternative involved the design and construction of a two-lane concrete composite bridge structure with precast concrete girders to span the 18 metre wide river. To maintain hydraulic capacity and the navigable clearance beneath the bridge, the bridge deck and approaches were raised so that the underside of the new thicker bridge matched the underside of the original structure.
